Trump, Granting Wishes

For Trump, in his dementia, there is no line between his desires, his wishes, and reality. He really believes that his trade war is good for the USA, that incarcerating refugees is a reasonable thing to do, that there were "very fine people" on both sides at Charlottesville. For his followers, Trump provides exculpation of their cruel beliefs. Since the highest official in the land believes them, like the white supremacists who have come out of the woodwork, it's OK for them to believe. He is like an evil genie, granting wishes that rebound on the people who make them.

And our own desires. It's easier to blame Trump than admit that he's providing validation for a whole lot of people who ought not get it.

It is Trump's followers that are the most frightening. Surveys of what Americans believe makes for scary reading. What kind of education system do you have that turns out people that ignorant? Chocolate milk comes from brown cows? Moon landings were faked? The earth is flat? The sun revolves around the earth?
There are all kinds of research into the ill effects of alcohol but none on how religion ruins people. I blame much of the beliefs on a literal reading of the bible to the exclusion of all else as an authority.
