AIPAC Does Not Make US Israeli Policy

[This was directed to someone who has bought into several antisemitic conspiracy theories. I fear I have lost her; this sort of thinking takes over people's minds.]

The claim that AIPAC is a hugely powerful lobby which controls US Israeli policy through its vast wealth is an ancient antisemitic slur in new language. AIPAC is not that influential.

AIPAC stands for "American Israel Public Affairs Committee;" it wasn't a political action committee until 2021. It's still not that large, though it has some big contributors. US support for Israel has far more to do with Christian Zionists, who hugely outnumber US Jews, than AIPAC. There also used to be cold warriors who sided with Israel because the Arab states were supported by the Soviet Union. There still are Islamophobes who think the Middle East is a US playground. One would think that the history would discourage them; the region is a graveyard of imperial ambitions, but, no.

If the antisemitic attacks on Jews and Israel are successful, we can expect the attackers to turn on Muslims next; antisemitism is a stone's throw away from Islamophobia.
