2025.12.05: it's been a day

(Summary of Bluesky posts, just today. It was a Day.)

  • Holy shit! Does Ireland now join NATO?
  • Could we have some screaming constitutionalist anger please?

  • I’ve been calling the Roberts Court Taney Court II for over a decade.

  • Is Biden going to outlive Trump?

  • “I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is called a disgrace, that two are called a law firm, and that three or more become a Congress!”—John Adams in the play “1776” (The historical Adams never said it)

  • “The larger and more representative a pro-democracy movement, the greater its chances of encouraging shifts in loyalty among key pillars of support to autocratic actions and regimes.” When Loyalties Shift: Americans’ Growing Noncooperation with Federal Abuses of Power

  • Have you considered deporting him to Russia?

  • Do you see any European “leader” who actually wants to lead? It’s amazing how much the problems of the liberal world come down to “Who actually wants to lead? Who actually wants to do the work?” The public is ready to fight but our “leaders” have no fight in them. The people who do are mostly younger and have not yet accumulated enough power to act.

  • Everyone with actual power to act refuses to use it. They attack everybody else, but never the people who are doing so much harm.

  • Rand Paul and Cassidy, arsonists fighting the fires they helped set.

  • I suppose Amy Coney Barrett has lied so much that she has forgotten what truth is.

  • It was an old Soviet game to sell pacifism so as to weaken the European and US response to Soviet depredations. I guess it’s now a CCP game.

  • Never forget that the Roberts Court kept Donald Trump on the ballot and kept him from coming to trial for the crimes of stealing classified documents and inciting an insurrection. There are no greater villains in this history.

  • Make America Hepatitic Again

  • I’m concerned that no-one is running the numbers, or even looking at the numbers. I’ve been writing about this for six years now and, while widely deploying PVs is a positive development, I have the uncomfortable feeling that we are rushing into the future blind.

  • The federal democratic republic seems to be a flawed model that does not operate in this century.

  • The whole argument that the poverty line has not changed is misers trying to persuade themselves that miserliness will keep them well off and that, therefore, poverty is the fault of the poor. It isn’t. It’s systemic. It’s policy.

  • $100,000 in 2025 ≈ $25,000 in 1980. Slow steady inflation has done a number on our ideas of a good salary. Add in the changes in shelter costs, outstripping inflation, and it’s a double whammy.

  • 🎶Remember the Maine, Lusitania too / The Gulf of Tonkin and Peal Harbor Too / Where there’s a will there’s a way to go to war / And a profit without honor no more — Jack Hardy

  • if we needed another reason to hate Spotify, their treatment of small artists is execrable.

  • This is the sort of conduct that got people hung at Nuremberg. Investigation, hell. Arrest and trial.

  • There have always been a lot of tough liberals. You’re describing more the squishy center types.

  • We are governed by rapey traitorous murderers.
