Gaza: They Make a Desolation and They Call It Peace

So Trump gets to play the peacemaker, Netanyahu gets off, the surviving leaders of Hamas get off, the Trump family makes a bunch of money, Gaza is down to the ground, and there are 67,000 Palestinians dead. Of those deaths, 13,600 deaths and 57,900 injuries occurred after Trump supported Netanyahu in breaking Biden’s ceasefire, put in place at the end of his administration.

Nixon, with the aid of Henry Kissinger, dragged out the Vietnam war so he could win the presidency at a huge cost in lives. Years later, it was revealed that he did so by making a deal with the North Vietnamese, a power the United States was at war with—treason. Trump’s Gaza deal is not treasonous, but it is a deal which supports genocidal war criminals.

Trump wants his Nobel Peace Prize. This may be the goad that will keep him supporting some sort of settlement in the eastern Levant. He does not deserve one but then neither did Kissinger or Obama.

Hamas is already purging–yet again–its opposition. With the connivance of Hamas, Netanyahu is keeping Marwan Barghouti, a strong popular Palestinian advocate of a two-state solution, possibly one of the few people who could lead a Palestinian state, in prison.

Can’t make an omelette without breaking yeggs, I guess.

“They make a desolation and they call it peace.”–attributed to Calgacus, Scottish opponent of Rome, possibly CE 83

My understanding is Hamas is shooting people working for the Zionists. Ukraine needs to do that too but they just put them in jail. Palestinians will continue to reject the two-state solution because the Zionists will never allow them a true state but will control their foreign policy, refuse them to create a military and leave them as a reservation or a Lethsoto.

Hamas is executing their opposition, that's all. (Reportedly, this is popular with Gazans, though anyone who objects is not likely to raise their voice.) The situation is not parallel to that of Ukraine; there has never been a significant Israel Jewish presence in Gaza.

Israel should have nothing to do with how a Palestinian state governs itself.

Many Palestinians object to a two-state solution, but what is the alternative? Assembling a single state from two ethnic factions that hate each other is not likely to be successful.

The two state solution will not be allowed to work by the Zionists. They will continue to kill Palestinians with any excuse. Mossad sent people into Gaza with rockets to make it look like the Palestinians had launched them. I do not know what the answer is unless a UN Peacekeeping force with weapons is allowed to protect Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank
