What is left of the Zionist dream?
What is left of the Zionist dream, now that Israel is committing genocide? Now that Israel has allied itself with Nazis, white supremacists, and Christian nationalists? How can Israel survive when its allies hate it, and all that it stands for?
The first European settlements in Palestine lasted almost 100 years from 1099. It ended when Europe stopped sending money and military support. Israel will last as long as America keeps sending money and military support. This is driven by a very powerful Jewish lobby and the Evangelicals who hate Jews but are anxious to bring on Armageddon and the Second Coming.
There were earlier European settlements; Israel was once a conquered province of Rome. Jews have not forgotten that, in 2000 years. Nor has the Roman Catholic Church.
Jews have been praying "L'Shana Haba'ah B'Yerushalayim" (next year in Jerusalem) for over a thousand years, though sometimes the phrase is taken as metaphor; one translation of Jerusalem is City of Peace. To Muslims, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, built on the site of the Second Temple, is their third holiest place. And, to Christians, Israel is the birthplace of Jesus, where he preached, and where he was executed and, it is said, rose to heaven. So Israel is sacred to three religions.
This is not an easy conflict to resolve, but I do not see how the current coalition of Israeli fanatics lead by the corrupt Prime Minister Netanyahu is going to succeed in anything but genocide and reigniting antisemitism worldwide.
When any criticism of Israel is called antisemitism, it certainly allows for antisemitism to increase. And it is everywhere. What else is there? If Israel had been called out as the fascist state it is, I think it may have given some outlet to people. But I know nothing, as Schultz said.
There's antisemitism beyond attacks on the supporters of Israel; as with racists under Trump, the antisemites were just waiting their moment. Now we are seeing attacks on synagogues and Jewish delis. The evangelical "supporters" of Israel as as antisemitic as they come - they want Jews to convert, or go to hell to usher in their Millenium. Meantime, the Netanyahu government shows it cares nothing for the Jews of the Diaspora.
